Carbon Monoxide is a colorless, odorless, tasteless, and poisonous gas. It is the most commonly encountered, pervasive poison in our environment and is responsible for more deaths than any other single poison. The main source of CO in our environment in motor vehicle emissions. CO poisoning from motor vehicles is a constant threat to our health. When we breathe air with high levels of CO the amount of oxygen delivery to the body’s organs (like the heart and brain) and tissues is dramatically reduced.
This is why it is so important to have CO Monitoring Systems and exhaust fans in enclosed parking garages. The current Federal OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) standard for carbon monoxide is 50 parts of carbon monoxide per million parts of air (ppm) with 200 ppm being the maximum for acute exposure. Our CO Sensors do better than that and bring on the exhaust fans at 25 ppm and sound alarms at 100 ppm. This meets the more rigorous standards of some state OSHA’s such as CalOSHA.
